And a great tune

"Mashrou' Leila - Mademoiselle"

'Zeitgeist: Moving Forward' intro

Now, my grandmother was a wonderful person. She taught me how to play the game Monopoly. She understood that the name of the game is to acquire. She would accumulate everything she could and eventually, she became the master of the board. And then, she would always say the same thing to me. She would look at me and she would say: “One day, you’ll learn to play the game.”

One summer I played Monopoly almost every day, all day long and that summer, I learned to play the game. I came to understand the only way to win is to make a total commitment to acquisition. I came to understand that money and possessions, that’s the way that you keep score. And by the end of that summer I was more ruthless than my grandmother. I was ready to bend the rules if I had to, to win that game. And I sat down with her to play that fall. I took everything she had. I watched her give her last dollar and quit in utter defeat. And then she had one more thing to teach me.

Then she said: “Now it all goes back in the box. All those houses and hotels, all the railroads and utility companies, all that property and all that wonderful money, now it all goes back in the box. None of it was really yours. You got all heated up about it for a while. But it was around a long time before you sat down at the board and it will be here after you’re gone; players come, players go. Houses and cars, titles and clothes, even your body.” Because the fact is that everything I clutch and consume and hoard is going to go back in the box and I’m going to lose it all.

So you have to ask yourself when you finally get the ultimate promotion, when you have made the ultimate purchase, when you buy the ultimate home, when you have stored up financial security, and climbed the ladder of success to the highest rung you can possibly climb it, and the thrill wears off - and it will wear off - Then what? How far do you have to walk down that road before you see where it leads? Surely you understand it will never be enough.

So you have to ask yourself the question: What matters?

Movies!

I haven't talked about those in quite a while. (And I still want to make one post about TV Shows)
The Hangover II. Great stuff. Difficult to top the 1st. Difficult to even live to the expectation. Entertaining, and I think it was a successful sequence. This trio has actually a lot of potential, specially Zach Galiafanakis. A third movie more focused on him could be great as well.

Fun fact: did you know Liam Neeson was the initial tattoo artist in the shooting of this movie? Then some scene had to be cut and the tattoo parlor scene had to be re-shot, and Liam was busy shooting somewhere else. Full story

Grown Ups. This movie seemed really good on paper, a good enough plot, great actors... But it just turned out to be another Sandler'esque movie. The I've seen this over-and-over again typical Sandler movie. Some nice jokes. Nice comedy. Nothing above average though :(
By the way... The directing? Who the fuck directed this? It completely screws the timing of even the best jokes...

Godfather I, II, III. The Goodfellas. The Departed. All seen before, I saw them again because I believe they're great movies, with great actors, and I've been needing to get some inspiration for the plot of a novel. Scarface is next on the list.

The Untouchables. Wow! Very, very good. A true gem from 1987. I don't know how I'd never seen this before. Kevin Costner, Robert de Niro, Sean Connery, Andy Garcia representing the story of Al Capone and the Eliot Ness Treasury Department Squad that got Capone because he didn't file his taxes.
"They send one of ours to the hospital, we send one of theirs to the morgue. That is the Chicago way." Classic!

That's about it, I don't remember any more movies I've seen lately.

Still on those fuckers

Update Weekly Challenges

  • Perfume - Done. Only 1 person noticed though. Not as fun as I thought it would be. Maybe next time I need to abuse of the stuff, and truly nauseate the room.
  • Planning - Failure. I'm repeating this one, right next.

Challenges for next week:
  • Mission Thunder Lip (This is a secret one).
  • (Repeat) Planning for 3months/6months/1yr/3yrs - Must-do.
  • Constantly Smile - If I pull this off, like I think I can, it'll be loads of fun
Also, I'm starting a two-week no-alcohol, no-tobacco period. Too much of both these last few weeks.

This should be good.
